Fort Zachary Taylor
State Historic Site

Details

The Fort Zachary Taylor State Historic Site, better known simply as Fort Taylor, (or Fort Zach to locals), is centered on a Civil War-era fort located at the southwestern tip of Key West. Controlled by the Union during the Civil War, later used heavily during the Spanish-American War, it is now a state park and National Historic Landmark. A true one-of-a-kind experience, visiting Fort Taylor not only provides a magnificent natural setting to birdwatch or swim, but also to immerse yourself in U.S. history. The park also boasts Key West’s favorite beach, located at the southern end of the park, providing opportunities for picnicking, swimming, snorkeling, paddling and fishing.
