Las tortugas marinas, un reptil marino, son una de las criaturas m\u00e1s antiguas del planeta y existen desde la \u00e9poca en que deambulaban los dinosaurios, hace m\u00e1s de 110 millones de a\u00f1os. Hoy en d\u00eda, siete especies diferentes de tortugas marinas viven en todo el mundo y cada especie est\u00e1 clasificada como amenazada o en peligro de extinci\u00f3n. De estas, cinco especies de tortugas marinas llaman hogar a las aguas de Florida y tres especies; la tortuga boba, la tortuga verde y la tortuga la\u00fad anidan anualmente en las playas del condado de Broward. Los nidos de tortuga boba son los que se encuentran con mayor frecuencia en el \u00e1rea, hist\u00f3ricamente representan m\u00e1s del 90% de todos los nidos de tortugas marinas en el condado de Broward.
